These Are a Few of My Favorite Things – Right Now
Haylee (Daughter)
My life went from being fairly normal, and almost mundane, to being filled with chaos and uncertainty. Currently, a lot of my day to day is surrounded by medical discussions, reliving the events of the past few months, and pain management.
So, to break up the predictability of my “new normal”, I wanted to share a few of the things that are bringing me joy recently.
1) Fancy Drinks
Ok, so maybe my version of fancy drinks is different than yours. I’m a creature of habit. My every day morning cup of coffee is plain and simple – coffee + a splash of heavy whipping cream. On occasion though, at some point during the week if I find myself in town, I tend to treat myself to something out of the norm. I’m usually reaching for a matcha or a chai in some variation of seasonal flavor. Trust me, this “basic white girl” is eagerly anticipating pumpkin spice season.

2) Animal Noises
This one might sound weird – no pun intended, but we live on a farm and have neighbors that have a farm, so animal noises are constant around here. It can be mostly donkey noises, which can be a little obnoxious, but the chickens and turkeys break it up with their own set of cackling and cooing. The roosters crowing or the cats meowing at the door remind me that it’s a new day and this life is so precious. Their noises are so much better to listen to than the beeping of a hospital machine that’s for sure!
3) Singing Toddler
Speaking of things much better to listen to than a hospital machine… My daughter has reached the stage of toddlerhood where she sings more than she speaks. Our days are filled with her precious voice reminding us that “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” and how we walked together “Once Upon a Dream”. My very own little Disney Princess fills our ears, and our hearts, with so much joy. I still can’t believe there might have been a version of this time where I wouldn’t be here to hear it.
4) Monsoon Season
If you’ve ever been in Arizona from July to September, you know Monsoon Season is a magical time – both amazing in a good way and also sometimes in a terrifying way. Where I’m at, we’ve gotten a decent amount of rain this season and boy do we need it. The rain, the thunderstorms, the lightning – all of it. Despite the booming and the flashing, it’s peaceful, it’s refreshing, it’s calming.
5) Time with God
Lastly, but certainly not least, is my time with God. While most days look like devotionals and prayer, some days look like still quiet moments just reading His word or spending time praising Him through worship. Some days are a little more chaotic and involve a singing toddler wondering where the “joy, joy, joy, joy down in her heart” is. Either way, it brings me so much joy.
