Prepping For Surgery: Meal Prepping, Cuddles, and Recovery
Haylee (Daughter)
I’m having surgery on Friday.
It’s routine, it’s outpatient, and it’s pretty minor – but it’s still nerve racking and, quite frankly, a little emotional for me.
With this surgery comes some unexpected changes to plans and some new experiences. My daughter has never been without my husband or I. That morning, we will drop her off with family and be without her until I’m discharged and at home. I’m sure she’ll be fine, and I know she’s going to be in good hands, but my mama heart wishes we didn’t have to be apart, even for a short time.
Despite her being almost two, I’m still nursing, and I had planned to do so as long as she wanted to. Now, because of surgery, I’m having to wean her because I don’t know what medications they’re going to have me on afterwards. I didn’t realize how emotional that journey would make me. Everyone always seems so excited to stop breastfeeding.
“I’m getting my body back!…I’m me again!”
While I see those sides of it, and am happy to feel a little more like my old self again, I also am extremely happy with being this version of myself – the version I prayed for, I worked towards, and the version God intended for me to be. I am so blessed to have been able to breastfeed this long, let alone at all! Having to stop nursing, emotionally, feels like she doesn’t need me as much anymore, whereas logically, I know that she just needs me in different ways. Still, knowing that doesn’t seem to help. My brain and my heart are on two different pages.
As the final countdown to surgery begins, I have been frantically cleaning, meal prepping, and soaking in all the cuddles I can. Recovery will be interesting to say the least. My husband will be holding down the fort, our toddler isn’t going to understand why Mama can’t play or pick her up, and the animals are going to wonder why I’m not the one feeding them at night. All that to say, I know I’ll get the rest I need as I recover, and I foresee a lot of movie marathons in my future.
If there’s anything that’s a “Must Watch”, let me know! I’m definitely open to suggestions.
